This is our hiking and climbing tour at the mountain Rax Alpe
about 90 km southwest of Vienna, Austria.
Rax Alpe is 2.007 meters above sea level.
We start at Preiner Gschaid at 1.070 meters.
Today we will walk the Reistalersteig with its really superb climbing passages.

If you draw a diagonal line through the picture, beginning down in the right corner, going up to the left corner, this is our tour. It starts at Preiner Gschaid, crosses the cliffs in the middle, and ends at the peak, Heukuppe (2.007 m).

So lets get started!
A first view of the cliffs, called Raxmäuer.

A little hole in the rocks, and the little plant has a place to grow.

The fog rolls in and the wind dishevels us.
Up to the top, gloves would be fine.

Down again, the fog follows us. Looks threatening, I know.

This green flatfish is a relief of Rax Alpe :)
We climbed up in the middle of front line.
The white rocks over there are the famous climbing rocks, Preiner Wand, with the one and only fantastic Haid-Steig where you need real climbing equipment like helmets etc.

We walk down a very pleasant trail called Schlangenweg because of its many serpentines.
Soon we reach meadows with cows and alpine flowers like thistels and larkspur. Romantic!
One look back to where we come from - it was such a great tour again!
This is my outfit. During all that walking and climbing and having fun with the camera I had not noticed that I am allowing certain insights...

Maria, wonderful hike! Although there were a few photos of drops that would make me dizzy if I were there in person. I have always been able to climb up, but getting down later has been quite difficult. Same thing with hay lofts and metal ladders up to them. It must be something from a past life.

Wunderschöne Bilder. Für meine Kondition etwas zu schwierig, wie Barbara sagt, "aufekraxln" geht, aber oben brauche ich dann die Bergrettung! Respekt vor solchen Leistungen!

das ar ja eine nette wanderung...hab seit lange zeit kein Edelweiss gesehen (sind naehmlich eine derartige seltenheit in Australien!)...habs alles genossen!

So eine wunderbare Tour wie mir schon lange untersagt ist. Nichts Steiles und ja nicht ueber 2,000m!,
um so mehr freue ich mich dass ich mit Euch mit kommen durfte und die Bergluft, Aussichten und Pflanzenwelt geniessen durfte.
Die kleinen zierlichen Glockenbluemlein gibt es auch in Island wo die Erdkruste ganz duenn ist und hohl klingt wenn man darauf geht.
Wie schoen auch die Suedhalbkugel sein mag, mein Herz liegt doch oberhalb der Schneegrenze. Danke Dir.

Wonderful collection of photos! You have taken us on a great hike and an enormous climb. I admire you doing this, for I stopped at the foot of the mountains because I suffer from a fear of heights and I wouldn't climb on a ladder for a million.
Mei, ich beneide euch um diesen wunderbaren Ausflug. Seit ich in Canada bin, vermisse ich das wirklich. Aber ich beklage mich nicht; bei meinem jährlichen Europabesuch hole ich natürlich vieles nach :-)
